Hi, my name is Scarlet and I'm an avid reader from Scotland. I'm married with 3 children, 1 girl and 2 boys, my oldest two are out of school/college and have jobs of their own but my youngest is still in school and studying to become a cosmologist. My daughter and my youngest son are both readers and like me they always have a book on the go. I spent many frustrating years trying to introduce my oldest son to the joy of reading, but sadly it wasn't to be, still 2 out of 3 isn't bad. I have a house full of animals, not including my kids, we have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 3 chinchillas and 2 lizards. I keep saying no more but new pets always seem to worm their way into our hearts.
Books are my passion and I have been in love with reading since a very young age. I enjoy all different genres but my favourites are dark fiction, fantasy, horror, paranormal, suspense and thriller. I don't read romance or erotica and very rarely I will pick up some non fiction or historical fiction. I also read some sci fi but I am particularly picky with that genre.
I tend to read ebooks over physical books as I share my virtual library with my children, buying ebooks means they have access to all my books and aren't standing over me waiting for me to finish a physical copy. When I'm not reading I'm usually doing some sort of craft, I tend to have many different projects on the go: knitting, crochet, embroidery, shuttle tatting , hooking and felting.
I'm always on the look out for good children's books and YA books as I run a reading club at the local school for children from 8 to 17. I also manage a storybag system in the school for the younger children who have just started school. The storybags consist of a book and some toys that relate to the book in some way to encourage them to interact and make reading fun. It's very rewarding to see their little faces lit up and excited about reading.
At the beginning of 2014 I was introduced to Goodreads (Goodreads and I have since parted ways) and for the first time in a long time I felt I had found somewhere that I could share and talk books with people who loved to read as much as I do. I discovered a whole new world of books and book lovers and I was inspired to share my love of books in ways I hadn't before. I started to review on Goodreads and I enjoyed it so much that I decided I would start my own blog and it's been an amazing journey and lots of fun. I have met lots of wonderful people who share my love for reading and they have inspired me and introduced me to many new authors that I feel I would never have found if it wasn't for this wonderful book community I now find myself a part of.
I hope to share this experience with others out there who have yet to find the book community online, and to inspire them the way they have inspired me.
“Now it is a strange thing, but things that are good to have and days that are good to spend are soon told about, and not much to listen to; while things that are uncomfortable, palpitating, and even gruesome, may make a good tale, and take a deal of telling anyway.”
